Die 1993/1994 gegründete russische Band END ZONE stellt mit "Eclectica" ihr drittes Album vor.

Nach dem Intro Alpha zeigt The vortex of reality die Richtung dieser Band auf: kraftvoller Metal der gekonnt folkloristische und klassische Elemente und gelegentlich sogar progressive sowie gothische Einflüsse mit der Rhythmik von gemäßigtem Death Metal verknüpft. Es holzt, es klassikt, es folkt und es schwebt ... allerdings ohne bombastisch zu wirken.

Das Instrumental Khovanschina ist ein tragendes Instrumental mit hohem russischem Folkloreteil, aber auch mit deftigen Riffs und sanften Harmonien. Ein Track, der ENDZONE durchaus als russische Ausgabe von AMORPHIS erscheinen lassen kann.

Auf Dual Infinity powern Drums, Bass und später auch die Guitars samt Cello. Ein guter Deathmetal-Track, der auch straightere Metalheads begeistern kann.

The Remedy ist der bei weitem düsterste und dramatischste Song des Albums. Brachiale Riffs, progressiver Touch, klassische Einflüsse ... eigenständig und als Sahnehaube dank Cello und Flöte endgültig ein echter Hammertrack.

Refuse/Resist holzt dann wieder richtig rein. Deathmetal ... hart ... russisch ... und leider nicht überdurchschnittlich ... bis, ja bis Cello und Flöte ein Zeichen setzen und der Track zu einer Headbangernummer ausartet.

Das unmetallische, aber fesselnd atmosphärische Afterwards beginnt mit Wind, spookigen Keyboards und wird von Minute zu Minute heimeliger, majestätischer und klassischer, ohne jedoch die spookigen Elemente vollends über Bord zu werfen.

Eine Platte, die sowohl open minded Progmetallern, open minded Hartmetallern und open minded gothic freaks ans Herz wachsen wird. Bisland so ziemlich das beste, was ich aus Russland gehört habe ... und das tolle: man hört dem Teil die Herkunft auch irgendwie an. 7 Punkte

The russian band END ZONE plays heavy metal with influences from death metal, progressive metal and some epic touch of folk, classic and gothic. "Eclectica" is their third album and definetely is an album which is worth 7 points because of the great skills in combining heavy riffs with progressive floating and beautiful classic touches like on the great track The vortex of reality or the instrumental track Khovanschina which could be described as a russion version of AMORPHIS. The remedy offers dramatic riffs together with progressive parts, cello and flute. Refuse/Resist gives you headbangin' fun and Afterwards is a great atmospheric (both spooky and majestic) non-metal track. This band is one of the best and most unique metal groups from Russia ... and Eclectica seems to be the album to proof their class and variety.
